2/4/15 Gypsy is a super sweet 6-year old stray that found her way to a local shelter. When we rescued her from the shelter, we knew she had lost a good portion, if not all of her vision in her right eye. This morning (Feb. 4, 2015) her foster awoke to find Gypsy in a lot of pain; with a red colored and swollen eye. An immediate trip to the vet was warranted.
2/5/15 We just spoke with Gypsy's foster and she reports that Gypsy is doing much better today and is eating well. Her spirits are up with the exception of having to navigate the house with the cone. Her pain was all but eliminated with the removing of the eye, and she is expected to make a full recovery return to normal activity in 14 days. Since she has been unable to see from that eye for some time, this should not affect her zest for life at all.
2/5/15 - update From Gypsy's Foster "This is not Gypsy's week. This evening I sat down with Gypsy to wash some of the dried blood from her eye. She rolled over and scared me when I saw a pink mass the size of a golf ball hanging out of her. We headed directly to the ER where they diagnosed a prolapsed uterus. Surgery there is extremely expensive so the doctors cleaned the exposed part of the organ and returned it to place. I will be trying to get an emergency spay done for her tomorrow. Amazingly we got out of there for $105, a record low. The worry here is the pigmented mass in her eye may be related to the prolapse and indicate there is a cancer somewhere. We'll do some blood tests and x-rays while she is under to figure this all out. Pray for my sweet girl."
2/7/15 Gypsy is feeling better, her appetite is good, and we are hoping for good news next week from the pathology reports. Please keep your paws cross for good news for our Gypsy girl. Thank you for all of your support - we love you all!!!
2/9/15 Gypsy is recovering well from her traumatic week. I have been able to cut back on her pain meds and she's feeling better. Gypsy HATES the cone but has to have it on when I am not with her to protect her eye. Her dew claw and spay scar don't seem to bother her. She's eating softened kibble and canned food and takes her pills like a good girl. It's amazing what you can hide in liverwurst. |
